A retro-prospective study of women who were diagnosed as suffering from Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) and delivered babies at Shri Krishna Hospital Karamsad was carried out. General Demographic Data, Data of Clinical findings and Antenatal Profile of the patients was collected and documented on a questionnaire and subjected to appropriate statistical ananlysis of the 80 women whose data were collected, 40% were primiparous and 33.2% were multipara. 58.8% of the study population took regular ANC (>3) while 41.2% either took irregular ANC or No ANC. Women enrolled in the study had systolic blood pressure in the range of 140-230 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure in the range of 90-120 mmHg before delivery based on which they were considered as suffering from PIH/ Preeclampsia. Oedema and Proteinuria are characteristic signs of PIH and were present in 33.8% and 11.2% of the women whose data were collected respectively. Result of the present study revealed that only 1 patient (1.3%) was suffering from HELLP Syndrome and 6 patients (7.3%) had low platelet count and were at risk of progressing to HELLP Syndrome. PIH may lead to various problems and if untreated results in morbidity in both mother and fetus. The goal of treatment is to prevent the condition from becoming worse and to prevent it from causing other complications. Hence, there is need for pharmacist intervention in management of PIH patients and to educate the mothers about the importance of healthy and complete nutrition during the pregnancy.
